Big Thicket Day is a FREE event that is open to the public and will offer an opportunity for families to visit the preserve and celebrate the creation of Big Thicket National Preserve.  There will be activities for the entire family including kid's activities, booths by area conservation organizations, and guest speakers. Rick Lewandowski, Director of Shangri La Botanical Gardens, will be the the Keynote Speaker.
Visitors will be able to meet Big Thicket authors and have their books signed. Guest will have lunch on the Visitor Center grounds and go on a Ranger led hike in the Preserve. Snacks and water will also be available at no charge, during the event.

Rick Lewandowski, Director,

Shanghri La Botanical Gardens

Rick has spent over 30 years in the public garden/horticulture field. Prior to Shangri La, Rick was Director of the 587-acre Mt. Cuba Center for 13 years. He oversaw the transition and enhancement of this premier native plant garden from private du Pont family estate to non-profit organization. He has lectured nationally and published widely in the field of horticulture. Rick is a passionate advocate for the conservation of natural habitats as well as the role that native plants can play in creating more sustainable and attractive landscapes. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University and a Master of Science degree from the University of Maryland.

2018 BIG THICKET DAY EVENTS 11:30 to 3:00 pm

Ray Ward and Sheryl Brocato will provide entertainment with a combination of courtry and bluegrass music. Jack & Annie Spurgin, Forth Worth Buckaroos, will entertain us with traditional Texas Heritage Music.
